National Physical Therapy Month

October is National Physical Therapy Month! The main focus of this campaign is to educate people of all ages and abilities about the importance of physical activity in preventing and combating obesity and its consequences.

Since 1990, there has been a dramatic increase in obesity in the United States. Nearly 34% of adults and 17% of children and adolescents are obese (50 pounds or more overweight). The occurrence of diabetes is also increasing as obesity rates climb.

Physical therapists are committed to helping in the fight against obesity and its consequences by helping you make the commitment to be physically active. For individuals who are overweight or obese, a physical therapist can design a program to promote healthy weight loss and help decrease the risk of developing secondary health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and musculoskeletal pain.
