Portion Distortion

Are you a healthy eater? Most of us don’t pay too much attention to what we eat…we simply eat what’s in the cabinet or what’s put in front of us. Today, I’m going to challenge you to do better! Notice in the picture above that the amount on the left is how much you are served, the amount on the right is an actual serving. What a difference!

Did you know that 2/3 of your plate should be plant-based foods and only 1/3 should be animal-based? You should have variety in texture, color, temperature, shape, and flavor on your plate–and that’s for EVERY meal! Have you ever heard of the MyPyramid? It’s a guideline to go by to determine the proper portions of your meals and of each food group. This is similar to the old Food Guide Pyramid, but it has been updated to give you a better idea of how much to get in each group. Check it out here!

Think about it before you eat that Big Mac!

A lot of our farmers and ranchers live very busy lives and are always on the go. Many have to get something quick in between tasks. Let’s try to do better and make those quick choices healthier!
